Upgrading your farm’s irrigation system doesn’t mean starting from scratch. With nanobubble technology, you can retrofit your existing system to significantly boost water use efficiency, crop yield, and soil health. This guide will show you how easy it is to add nanobubbles to your irrigation setup and maximise the full potential of your existing infrastructure.

Why consider a retrofit?

Many farmers are looking for smarter, more sustainable ways to manage water on-farm.

Whether you’re dealing with dry conditions, limited water allocations, or a push to increase yields without expanding inputs, retrofitting irrigation systems with nanobubble technology offers a powerful and practical solution.

Unlike other irrigation upgrades, nanobubble systems don’t require major infrastructure changes. Instead, they’re designed to integrate seamlessly into what you already have - making them a cost-effective, high-impact investment.

The benefits of integrating nanobubbles on-farm

When you upgrade your system to include nanobubbles, you’re not just improving water use efficiency - you’re enhancing plant health from the root zone. Benefits include:

  • Increased dry matter yield under the same water volume

  • Up to 20% less water use

  • Improved soil oxygenation and root development

  • Reduced evaporative losses

  • Healthier, more resilient crops or pasture.

Trials have consistently shown that farms installing nanobubble systems outperform those using traditional irrigation alone, particularly in challenging conditions. You can read some practical examples on our website: Farm Irrigation Success Stories | Nanobubble Agritech Case Studies

Choosing the right retrofit: Nano i-Series vs Nano r-Series

At Nanobubble Agritech, we offer two retrofit-ready systems tailored to different farm needs:

  • The Nano i-Series is ideal for high volume applications such as broadacre dairy operations using centre pivot irrigation, or outdoor drip irrigated horticulture and viticulture. Systems are installed ‘in-line’, where irrigation is drawn from the source (e.g. bore, river scheme) and applied directly to the crop or pasture. For pivot irrigators, this system includes a mobile dripline retrofit under the pivot to ensure nanobubble retention during irrigation, significantly reducing evaporation losses and delivering oxygen-rich water directly to the root zone.

  • The Nano r-Series is perfect for growers that hold water in some form of storage (e.g. harvesting rain water or pulling from a bore, into a day storage tank). The r-Series injects nanobubbles into the water and recirculates it within the tank, to maximise nanobubble concentration and dissolved oxygen levels. This is a great solution for high value indoor growers, protected cropping and nurseries aiming to reduce disease pressure, boost crop performance, and improve water quality without a full irrigation overhaul or costly chemical treatments.

The installation process - what to expect

Here’s how the installation process works:

  1. Site visit & assessment

Our team will visit your farm to understand your current system, paddock or block layout, water pressure, and goals.

  2. System recommendation

Based on your setup, we’ll recommend either the Nano i-Series or Nano r-Series and provide a clear proposal outlining return on investment.

  1. Installation & Integration

Our technicians will retrofit your irrigation infrastructure with the nanobubble generator and, if applicable, mobile dripline.

  1. Monitoring & Support

Once installed, we monitor performance to ensure you’re seeing real results - whether it’s higher yields, better pasture resilience, or reduced water use.
